duplicate that kind of success

(Sports Network) - The Winnipeg Jets continue their longest road trip of the season, a seven-game jaunt that has so far produced a 1-1 record, when they face the surprising Florida Panthers at the BankAtlantic Center this evening. Authentic Wayne Gretzky Jersey. Fans in the Jets Region can catch the action live on TSN Jets, beginning at 7pm et/6pm ct. You can also listen to all the action on TSN Radio 1290 and at TSN.ca/Winnipeg. Winnipeg opened the swing with a wild 9-8 victory in Philadelphia, but saw its offense turn to ice in a 1-0 loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday. Lightning goaltender Dwayne Roloson stopped all 28 shots he faced, while the Jets Ondrej Pavelec made 26 saves after yielding seven goals on 43 shots versus Philadelphia. "Were going through a tough stretch right now, but well get things together here," said Pavelec. The shutout ended Alex Burmistrovs six-game point streak. He had posted three goals and five assists over that run. The Winnipeg franchise won four of six over the Panthers a season ago, taking all three games in Florida. All of those wins came by just one goal, including a 3-2 shootout victory in the most recent meeting there. The Panthers return home this evening for the first of three straight contests. Florida won two of its three games on its recent road trip, but was just seconds away from gaining at least a point in each outing. However, the Panthers allowed the game-winning goal in Ottawa with just four ticks left in regulation on Thursday. Hoping to avoid another letdown, the Panthers held on for a 3-2 victory in Buffalo on Saturday. Jason Garrison scored on the power play with less than two minutes to go on a one-timer from the high slot. "When it comes near him that things popping off there pretty hard," Panthers head coach Kevin Dineen said about Garrisons shot. "I dont think anyone in hockey would have much chance on that." Marcel Goc and Tomas Fleischmann also scored for the Panthers, while Jose Theodore ended with 24 saves. Tomas Kopecky matched a career high with three assists and Fleischmann now has two goals and four points over his last four games. Floridas ability to hold the lead over the weekend gave it a 6-4-0 record through its first 10 games, the clubs best start to a season since posting the same mark in 2005-06. "Weve talked a lot about all this new personnel we have and you can do all the team-bonding stuff you want [but] its games like that make a difference for you," Dineen said. "So, it turns into a good road trip, could have been a great road trip but youve got to like the bounce-back game." New Florida forward Marco Strum skated in his 899th career game and is expected to become the first German-born player to reach the 900-game mark in the NHL tonight. Kevin Garnett Swingman Jersey., has been canceled because of the threat from Tropical Storm Nicole. The announcement was made by the league on Tuesday, more than 24 hours before the scheduled game. Miikka Kiprusoff Jersey. Vogel will guide the Pacers tonight versus the Minnesota Timberwolves in the finale of a short two-game homestand at Conseco Fieldhouse. He improved to 5-1 since taking over for Jim OBrien and saw his team pull out a 104-103 victory versus the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday in Indy. Rick Nash Jersey. Wheeler was acquired from the Houston Astros July 28 for infielder Ty Wigginton, and compiled a 5.76 ERA in 25 games with Tampa Bay. For the season, the 30-year old right-hander finished with a career-high 82 strikeouts in 74. Authentic Bobby Orr Jersey. As he reached a clump of trees that shielded him from the fans, he thumped his three-wood on the soft grass. For the mild Midwesterner, this constitutes a meltdown. "I was frustrated at that point," Stricker said. But he never lost his patience. Authentic John Stockton Jersey. The playoff run was exceptional, so I doubt the Giants or any other team will be able to duplicate that kind of success again this season. The games, at Tampa Bay, at Dallas, at Green Bay and the Super Bowl against New England, all came down to one play the Giants made or one play their opponent failed to make. The Giants should be full of confidence after last year.MOBILE, Ala. - For once, Andre Caldwell and Erik Ainge had a dramatic finish that both could cheer. Floridas Caldwell scored on a two-yard end around off a handoff from Tennessees Ainge on the final play of the Senior Bowl to cap a 14-play, 86-yard final drive and lift the South to a 17-16 win over the North on Saturday. After careers spent battling for the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division in a bitter rivalry, they made for an odd pairing on the winning play. "Its fun to end your college career like that," said Ainge, whose 13-of-21 passing and 159 yards all came in the second half. "Ill remember handing the ball to a Gator to win for the rest of my life." Caldwell plunged into the end zone, getting hit by Terrence Wheatley at the goal line, and promptly celebrated the fourth-down score with a Gator chomp. Georgias Brandon Coutu then made the extra point. "I knew I was going to get hit," Caldwell said. "I just lowered my head. To get in the end zone was a great feeling." Ainge, who was invited to the all-star game after Louisvilles Brian Brohm bowed out, took over at his own 14 with 2:48 left after the North was stopped on fourth down. He completed six passes and benefited from a pass interference call and some nice runs for extra yardage by his receivers. He completed an 18-yarder to Caldwell on fourth-and-10 from the Souths 14, then hooked up with Houstons Donnie Avery for a 22-yarder across the middle. The South got another first down on a pass interference call and Harry Douglas of Louisville caught the ball across the middle and managed to outrun everyone to the sideline to stop the clock after a 23-yard gain. Tulane running back Matt Forte then gained 14 yards on a catch and run down to the 2. Ainge threw three incompletions in the end zone, leaving only two seconds on the clock for a final play. "On that last play, you have a chance to call anything because its the last play," said South coach Mike Nolan of the San Francisco 49ers. "Whereas the ones prior, he just had to keep it alive and not use up all the clock. A play like that you call it the first or second play and we never get another play off. It was a great call and it worked." Ainge earned South offensive MVP honours. Forte ran for a game-high 59 yards and had 38 receiving to land the overaall MVP award. Niklas Backstrom Jersey North coach Lane Kiffin of the Oakland Raiders was the subject of some drama of his own on the eve of the game. The Raiders denied a report on ESPN.com Friday that cited unidentified sources saying that owner Al Davis asked Kiffin to resign. "Im not going to comment on that," Kiffin said after the game. "Its got nothing to do with this game, and these guys last game here." Asked if he would be the Raiders coach in the fall, he said: "I hope so." Michigans Chad Henne, the North offensive MVP, accounted for both his teams touchdowns with a 36-yard pass to Lavelle Hawkins of California in the first half and a four-yarder to Missouri tight end Martin Rucker with 14:32 left in the game. He and Ainge were the only quarterbacks to avoid costly mistakes. The defensive players accounted for many of the big plays before the Souths final drive. Southern California defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis outshined his college quarterback, John David Booty, by sacking Andre Woodson of Kentucky to record a safety for the North. Those two points were the margin until the fourth quarter, and Ellis was the Norths defensive MVP. LSU linebacker Ali Highsmith received South defensive honours. Henne had staked the North to a 16-7 lead with considerable help from Chauncey Washington. The Southern California tailback ran for 30 yards on three carries during the drive that ended with Ruckers TD. Henne completed five of nine passes for 64 yards but was reduced to spectator at the end. "They just did a great job on the last drive," he said. "Erik made some great throws and the receivers made some great plays. Everybody played well. Its an all-star game, so everybody has something to be proud about." Henne was the only one of the five quarterbacks who had significant time and no turnovers in the first half. Booty was intercepted by UTEPs Quintin Demps in the end zone to stop a promising drive. He finished with 72 yards passing, second only to Ainge. Woodson lost a fumble in addition to getting tackled for the safety by Ellis, widely regarded as the games top prospect. Woodson did have a 6-yard touchdown pass to Tennessee tight end Brad Cottam. Hawaiis Colt Brennan was 2-of-6 for 29 yards with an interception. Delawares Joe Flacco was 2-of-7 for 22 yards and a pick. ' ' '

Tweet PHILADELPHIA -- When a player gets to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time, theres really two ways for him to go. Joe Thornton Premier Jersey. He can either embrace the moment in the spotlight or cower from it. Boston Bruins forward Nathan Horton has put a bear hug on the spotlight. After six seasons with the Florida Panthers watching the playoffs on TV, Horton has been a hit in his first eight postseason games. His goal in Game 1 of the conference semifinals against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday was his fourth of the postseason, and he also had his first assist. He also leads the League with two game-winning goals – both in overtime, including the series-clincher in Game 7 of the first round against the Montreal Canadiens. "Im having a lot of fun," Horton said following Sundays practice at the Wells Fargo Center. "I enjoy this a lot. This is what hockey is about. Ive been missing it. To be here and to be with this team, these guys, its a pretty incredible feeling." Its a feeling Horton had to learn firsthand. Hes surrounded by teammates who are playoff veterans, but captain Zdeno Chara said the best way to educate a playoff newcomer is to have him go through a game. "You try to encourage them, you try to give them as much as you can, but the best thing is when they experience it themselves, when they go on the ice and see how it is,” Chara said. “Talking to them now after the first round, they realize its so much tighter, everything is so much harder, every little thing can make a difference. Thats something you cant really teach or talk to them about; they really have to experience it on their own." Horton said he felt the temperature change on the ice the minute he stepped out for warmups at TD Garden prior to Game 1 of the first round. "I did play with a lot of guys who played in the playoffs, but you dont know until youre there and feel it," Horton said. "Its not about anything else other than the team winning. When you win, and hear that last buzzer, it feels great. … Its an unbelievable feeling to play in the playoffs and be involved in this. "Its hard to describe that feeling you get, how excited and how much everybodys pressing hard, everybodys backchecking, a bit more work ethic." Putting in the extra work is nothing new for Horton. He did it during a regular season that saw him score 26 goals and finish a career-best plus-29 in 80 games. "He hasnt changed his approach at all," linemate Milan Lucic said. "Thats why hes been able to relax and play his game, because hes approaching the game the same way. Hes preparing for the games the same way. Hes obviously played well for us so far. Were going to need him to keep playing the way that hes been playing if we want to have success." GM Peter Chiarelli told NHL.com he was more curious than concerned with how Horton would respond this time of year. However, he said the background information he had on Horton prior to acquiring him last June made him believe it would only be positive. "Part of the research you do when you acquire someone is you look at his character, what hes done in the past, how hes reacted to certain things. By all accounts we had positive reports. You like to think that if a guy has a good character in general that hes going to respond. There were times during the season when he went through stretches that he wasnt getting his shot off, wasnt scoring -- for big stretches -- and he stuck with it. Seeing how he stuck with it and it came around, he was able to work through his periods, it gave us better comfort going into the playoffs." Now that hes through one round and already having contributed in the second round, theres no reason to expect Horton to slow down. Hes having too much fun to stop now. "Obviously there were a little nerves coming in because I havent been here," he said, "but just very excited to start it. Im still excited. Im still having a lot of fun and really enjoying it." (Sports Network) - Though their recent trip out west didnt end on a high note, the Detroit Red Wings have plenty to feel good about as they return home to begin a season-long homestand this evening against the Phoenix Coyotes at Joe Louis Arena. After picking up victories in Calgary and Edmonton last week, Detroit suffered a 6-4 setback in Vancouver on Saturday. Still, it was only the Red Wings second loss in eight games and the club has pulled within three points of the first-place Blues in the Central Division. Niklas Kronwall scored one of his two goals in the game in the second period on Saturday and Dan Cleary and Jonathan Ericsson also tallied in the frame as the Red Wings were tied with the Canucks heading into the third. However, after limiting Vancouver to just 11 shots through the first two periods, Detroit allowed 23 in the final 20 minutes and was short-handed four times, yielding three tallies in the period. We had limited them to very little for two periods. We took three penalties in the third, said Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock. We gifted a couple goals here tonight. They pushed us in the third. Jimmy Howard allowed all six goals on 34 shots to suffered his first regulation loss in the regular season since March 9. He had been 19-0-3 in his previous 22 outings, including 6-0-1 this season. Detroit begins a six-game homestand tonight and is 4-1-1 in Motown this year. That lone regulation loss came versus the Coyotes on Oct. 28, just 12 days after Howard had helped backstop Detroit to a 2-1 overtime win at Phoenix. Howard is 3-0-1 with a 2.18 goals-against average versus the Coyotes. Detroit forward Pavel Datsyuk has a goal and an assist in the two meetings this year to give him a point in 21 of his last 22 regular-season games versus Phoenix. Datsyuk has totaled 10 goals and 30 assists in that span and also has four goals annd seven helpers over a current eight-game point streak. Raptors Jersey Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom also has a point in eight straight games, notching a goal and 10 assists in that span. Lidstroms fellow blueliner Brian Rafalski will make his return to the lineup tonight after being sidelined since October 9 with a knee injury that required arthroscopic surgery. The Michigan native has registered two assists and a plus-five rating in two games this season. Detroit has won 14 of its last 18 versus Phoenix -- not including last seasons opening-round playoff matchup won by the Wings in seven games -- and has taken seven of the last nine played at Joe Louis Arena in this series. These two clubs wont meet for the fourth and final time this regular season until March 5. The Coyotes will visit the Red Wings without captain Shane Doan, who is week- to-week with an upper-body injury suffered versus the Stars on Friday. Doan missed three games earlier this year due to a suspension stemming from a hit versus Anaheim on Oct. 17. Without Doan on Saturday, Phoenix dropped a 4-3 shootout to Pittsburgh. It was the Coyotes third loss in four games and they are 2-3-3 over their last eight. Wojtek Wolski had his first goal of the season and also posted an assist, while Radim Vrbata and Eric Belanger scored. Ilya Bryzgalov had 33 saves in regulation and overtime. I thought we competed hard and did some good things out there, said Phoenix head coach Dave Tippett. Weve gotta keep pounding away. You dont always get rewarded for it, but hard work eventually pays off. Defenseman Ed Jovanovski, who had his first career hat trick versus Nashville last Wednesday, also missed Saturdays game due to flu-like symptoms and is questionable for tonight. Bryzgalov has been in net for both games against Detroit this year, stopping 74-of-78 shots faced. ' ' '

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Rookie Jordan Crawford recorded his first career triple-double and Andray Blatche finished with 36 points and 19 rebounds, leading the Wizards to a 115-107 victory over the Cavaliers. Henrik Lundqvist Jersey. Washington played without rookie point guard John Wall, who was suspended one game for his altercation with Miami Heat center Zydrunas Ilgauskas on Wednesday. But Crawford helped fill the void with 21 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Blatche, meanwhile, matched a career high in points and set a career high for rebounds. Im going to make sure we play a team game, Crawford said. I didnt feel I had to do that much. I just wanted to get the team involved and then pick my spots. JaVale McGee added 25 points for the Wizards, who won for the second time in three games. Blatche set a franchise record with 16 offensive rebounds. Ramon Sessions netted 26 points to lead the Cavaliers, who have dropped two in a row since beating Miami on Tuesday. J.J. Hickson had 21 points and 10 boards in the loss. Guys like Blatche got so many offensive rebounds because I wasnt being physical, Hickson said. Ill be the first to say, I think its the reason we lost tonight, but I guarantee you it wont happen again. Washington held a 29-26 edge after the first quarter, but Cleveland moved in front in the second, leading by as many as seven. Alonzo Gees three-pointer with 25.9 seconds left in the half gave the Cavaliers a 57-50 advantage, but Blatches put-back in the final seconds made it a five-point game at the break. The Wizards then gained control by going on a 14-0 run early in the third quarter. Blatche and Crawford closed the burst with consecutive three-point plays, giving Washington a 68-61 advantage. Cleveland stayed close, and was within 83-82 after scoring the final six points of the frame. But it couldnt pull in front, and the Wizards created distance in the fourth with another extended run. McGee scored six points during the 11-0 stretch that had Washington up 96-84 with 8:14 remaining. Crawford hit several big shots down the stretch to keep Cleveland from getting too close. His jumper with 4:20 left made it a 102-96 game, and his three with 2:35 on the clock extended the lead to 107-99. The Wizards led by at least six the rest of the way. GAME NOTES:Crawford recorded career highs in rebounds and assists...Washington held a 56-38 rebounding advantage, though made only 19-of-32 free throws...The teams, which occupy the bottom two spots in the Eastern Conference, entered Fridays game with a combined record of 33-115...The Wizards have won two of three against the Cavs this season. AIBA head Wu Ching-Kuo said "the air has been cleared" after the bodys own investigative panel dismissed accusations in a BBC program that Azerbaijan paid bribes to try to secure two boxing gold medals at next years London Games. "We welcome the findings of this important process, and are pleased that our procedures and our integrity have stood up to the scrutiny of an independent inquiry," Wu said. The BBC said it stood by its report and would co-operate with a separate ongoing investigation by the International Olympic Committees ethics commission. The British program cited anonymous sources as saying Azerbaijan paid US$9 million toward AIBAs World Series of Boxing competition in return for two guaranteed Olympic titles. An AIBA-appointed inquiry team, comprising its legal counsel and four members of its disciplinary and ethics commissions, reported Monday the allegations were "groundless and unsupported by any credible evidence." Wu deliivered the inquiry report to IOC president Jacques Rogge before issuing a statement. Bobby Orr Jersey "We are pleased that after a lengthy investigation, the full facts have emerged and the air has been cleared," said Wu, who is an IOC member. The IOC said it had taken note of AIBAs report and "will now look at its findings." The BBC alleged that WSB chief operating officer Ivan Khodabakhsh promised gold medals to Azerbaijan in return for the payment. However, the inquiry panel said it established a single private investor from Azerbaijan, Hamid Hamidov, made a "purely commercial investment" to support the establishment and creation of four U.S. boxing franchises for the WSB series. Wu said he had "full confidence" in Khodabakhsh, who was "fully exonerated" of any wrongdoing. AIBAs investigation found the governing body had "appropriate safeguards in place" to guard against any attempts to fix results at the Olympics. It said the BBC had relied on hearsay to reach its conclusions. The BBC said it expected AIBA would be "making all the evidence they reviewed public." ' ' '

TORONTO - Four games into a new season is certainly no time to panic and while their fans might be climbing up the walls, the Toronto Maple Leafs are doing nothing of the sort. Authentic Zdeno Chara Jersey. Still, sharing status with the New York Islanders as the NHLs only winless teams isnt doing much for their confidence, and with back-to-back games coming up against the New York Rangers and Colorado Avalanche, a change in atmosphere will definitely do them some good. Its depressing here right now, head coach Ron Wilson said after Saturdays 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins left his team 0-3-1. Weve got to find a way to get some momentum early in the game, thats what has kind of fallen off. Scoring the first goal and building on that, or at least coming out of the first period 0-0 would be a start in the right direction. The Maple Leafs, who were booed off the ice, did the complete opposite against the defending Stanley Cup champions, digging themselves into an early 2-0 hole and never really finding their equilibrium, as Wilson put it, after that. They were undisciplined, and crossing the line in their physical play combined with porous penalty killing led to three power-play goals for the Penguins, quickly giving back the momentum whenever it had swung their way. Being smarter in that regard and more effective in the offensive zone will help in Mondays affair versus the Rangers (Rogers Sportsnet, 7 p.m. ET). In New York were going to need a big save early, were going to need some kind of a scoring chance, said Wilson. Were doing all the other things that you would think in most circumstances would give your team a boost. Weve had fights that weve won, weve had some great hits that get the bench excited, yet we havent been able to really unleash any offence, and thats what weve got to get going early in the game. A reason for that, Wilson believes, is his teams insistence on attacking from the perimeter instead of using its toughness to drive the net. As a result, the Maple Leafs have just 10 goals through four games and have rarely produced long stretches of pressure in their opponents end. Against the Penguins, for instance, many of their shots were blocked by Pittsburghs collapsing defenders and the Leafs were rarely around to collect the subsequent loose pucks. The two goals they did score, one by tough guy Jay Rosehill and the other by Niklas Hagman, both came off rebounds. Were not tough in front of the other teams net, said Wilson. Weve got to do a better job and get more guys driving to the net and paying that kind of price. Were on the outside looking in and were not going to score many goals doing that. Goals are likely to be tough to come by versus the usually stingy Rangers and if the Maple Leafs cant pick up their first win against them, the pressure will be turned up even higher for Tuesdays home contest versus the Avalanche. Wilson indicated backup goalie Joey MacDonald - recalled last week because of Jonas Gustavssons groin injury - would start at least one of the two games and some better play in net would help. Vesa Toskala made 28 saves versus the Penguins but looked uncomfortable every time the puck came his way in the first period, and received several mock cheers when he made routine saves. While he hardly deserved all the blame for the loss, he might have stopped a couple of the goals and given his penalty killers an extra sense of security. Occasionally you need a save (while shorthanded), said Wilson. On the first one (a long point shot by Sergei Gonchar), I think Vesa would want to take that one back, it was a wrist shot, probably through a screen but you need a save there. At the end of the day, thats kind of what your penalty killing comes down to once in a while. For their part, the Maple Leafs realize that as a whole everybody needs to step up. The optimism created by the summers roster makeover is quickly ebbing and while some growing pains were to be expected given all the changes, it doesnt excuse a lack of smarts or consistent effort on the ice. Weve got to play more desperate, said forward Matt Stajan. Were waiting for something to happen instead of going out and doing it ourselves. I dont think theres a guy in here who is satisfied with the way they played. Added Hagman: We did some things good, obviously we didnt do good things enough. ... We obviously want to get our first win. We feel if we get the energy and we stick to the system and everybody chips in, were capable of winning. Authentic Henrik Sedin Jersey. When playing each other this season, the Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche have taken absolutely no shortcuts. "I know Im pretty sore. Am I worried? Of course. Hopefully, everything will come out negative tomorrow. When I come out of a game, believe me, something is really wrong. "Hopefully, cross our fingers and Ill be all right." General Manager John Mozeliak said no roster moves are being planned. "We will know something tomorrow and go from there," Mozeliak said. "Right now, he will be tested in the morning and well see." Manager Tony La Russa said he experienced a range of emotions when he saw his first baseman go down. "It scared the hell out of all of us," La Russa said. "It smoked him pretty good. The doctor said he has good strength so that makes us kind of optimistic. First indications are that we caught a break." Wilson Betemit hit a chopper up the middle off Cardinals starter Jamie Garcia. Second baseman Pete Kozma backhanded the ball and made a jump-throw to first, pulling Pujols off the bag. As the slugger tried for a tag, Betemit ran into his glove hand and Pujols went down to the ground in pain. "He hit me on my wrist and my shoulder," Pujols said. "He kind of jammed me back. Its the toughest play to make as a first baseman. Its a bang-bang play. I saw the replay a couple of times, but I didnt really want to look at it." The collision was unavoidable, Betemit said. "I was running hard and the ball arrived at the same time I got to the base," Betemit said. "I couldnt do anything about it. He hit me on my left arm, thats why he dropped the ball. I hit him and then I saw him on the ground. Thats part of the game. I couldnt do anything about it." Pujols, hitting .279, was 3-for-3 with his 17th home run. The fifth-inning shot gave St. Louis a 3-2 lead. Lance Berkman, who had been given a rest Sunday, replaced Pujols at firsst. Authentic Jaroslav Halak Jersey Leading off the ninth, Alcides Escobar hit his first home run on a 3-2 pitch from St. Louis reliever Fernando Salas, who threw 10 pitches in the at-bat. It was Escobars first homer in 325 at-bats and it tied the game 4-4. It marked just the second blown save in 15 attempts for Salas (4-1). After leadoff hitter Dan Descalso got thrown out trying to stretch a single, Schumaker connected off Tim Collins (3-4), the fifth Royals pitcher. It was Schumakers second game-ending homer, the first coming in 2008, and his first home run since April 13. "Im not sure theres a better feeling than hitting a home run walk off," Schumaker said. "It doesnt happen too often, home runs in general, so Ill take it." It was also Schumakers first major-league home run off a left-hander. "I was disappointed I was out of the game and I didnt get to punch Schumaker in the ribs after the walk-off," Pujols said. Schumaker hit Collins second pitch. "He was obviously sitting fastball," Collins said. "He got it and he hit it. It might have been a little bit over the plate. I was trying to get back into the count." Schumaker got his first RBI as a pinch-hitter this year, driving in Andrew Brown in the sixth to put St. Louis ahead 4-3. Cardinals reliever Miguel Batista pitched out of a jam in the seventh with two on and no outs. After getting a flyout, Batista got Jeff Francoeur to sharply line out to Schumaker at second and Melky Cabrera was doubled off first. Royals rookie left-hander Danny Duffy left in the fourth inning with cramps in his left calf. He struck out nine in 3 2-3 innings. He threw 90 pitches. Duffy allowed six hits and a walk. Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by Billy Butler, who was making his first start after pinch-hitting in the first two games of the series. Butler is the Royals designated hitter. The Cardinals scored twice in the first when Brown, making his second major league start, hit a bases-loaded single. The Royals tied it in the second on Alex Gordons two-out RBI single. Kansas City tied it at 3 in the sixth when Escobars squeeze bunt scored Betemit.
